Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS PONY BASEBALL and HOW IS IT DIFFERENT FROM LITTLE LEAGUE?

We have an entire page dedicated to explaining exactly what PONY Baseball is and why we think it is the best approach to learning baseball.  It includes an explanation of the differences between PONY and Little League.

Please visit our About PONY Baseball page to learn more.

WHEN ARE GAMES PLAYED?

In the Spring, teams typically play 2 game per week 1 during the week and 1 weekend game.  Typically weekend games are held on Saturdays, but field availability may necessitate Sunday games.

In the Fall, we try to schedule all games on Sundays, to accommodate our multi-sport athletes who often play soccer, football, or other activities on Saturdays.

It is recommended that players arrive at the field at least 30 minutes prior to game time so Team Managers can warm them up and get the line-up cards ready prior to the start of the game. Show times are determined by the Team Manager and not directed by the league.

Schedules will not be published until a week or so before the season starts.  We always try to get the schedule released as quickly as possible.  However there are a lot of variables to manage, including the allocation of field time, finalizing the exact number of teams for every division, ensuring each division's games and practices are on the appropriate fields, ensuring our volunteer coaches who coach multiple teams do not have conflicts, coordinating with other leagues for inter league play etc..  We appreciate your patience as we work through all of these variables (and more) in order to finalize a schedule that can be published.

WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR STAFFING THE SNACK STAND?

Every EPP Parent will be responsible for working 2 shifts per season at our snack stand for each league participant (2 kids playing means 4 shifts), up to a maximum of 4 shifts.  There is an option to Buy Out of your Snack Stand Commitment.   Please be sure to indicate the Buy Out option during registration.  (This policy may be modified slightly once registration is finalized and schedules are published due to league participation and game schedule.)

There are only two exemptions from this commitment, Managers and Team Parents.  If you are a Manager (Head Coach) you do not have to work in the snack stand at all.  However, the Co-Managers of a team will SHARE the credit.  So both of you would be exempt from 1 shift instead of one of you being exempt from 2 shifts. This exemption is NOT for Assistant Coaches.

If you are a Team Parent you do not have to work the regular shifts in the Snack Stand.  However Team Parents work Opening and Closing shifts and are responsible for ensuring that all of the families on their team fulfill their commitment.

If you do not fulfill your Stand Stand Commitment, you will be sent an invoice for the shifts you missed, at the rate charged for that season.

WHEN AND WHAT IS A PLAYER TRYOUT EVALUATION SESSION?

All (Shetland-Bronco) league players must attend an evaluation session to be drafted onto a team. These sessions typically last about 1.5 to 2 hours.  The evaluation sessions gives the managers within the league an opportunity to evaluate each player on a variety of skills prior to the draft. All players are then placed on a team.  Our goal is to create balanced teams and competitive games.
